Just something to think about when you are deciding to build that new product.

  • Bill Gates unveiled the Tablet PC in 2000 at COMDEX (10 years before the iPad)
  • Audio Highway announced their Listen Up MP3 player in 1996 (5 years before the first iPod)
  • The GUI (Graphical User Interface) was actually first developed by Xerox, not Microsoft Windows or Apple
  • Screenr wasn’t the first web based screen recorder

It really doesn’t matter if you are first to market.  Often times it makes it easier if someone goes before you because you can learn from their mistakes, learn what you can do better, then execute.

Clearly I am not firing on all cylinders today…I installed Windows 7 yesterday, the RTM build, which is the build that will be available to the public in October.  Anyway, I couldn’t find the default background that was used during the Beta and Technical Preview (pictured above).  Then I was kinda disappointed it wasn’t installed.  Well, I finally figured out why it wasn’t installed…that picture is a “Betta” fish, so it was used to signify the product was in Beta.

So say goodbye the Beta fish when you upgrade.

Gabe posted a WOM blog entry today that you can read here.  In that post there is an image that says “You should follow us on Twitter here.”

So why was that text chosen for this image?  That text was chosen because Dustin Curtis says in this blog post it creates the best click through rates.  Really interesting article by Dustin, and if you aren’t following him on Twitter, you should.  He is pretty creative, and pretty funny.
